mvBase Tech Tip: # mv123
Pertinent Release(s): All Releases
Pertinent Windows O/S: 95 and/or NT

Do not press the Stop button in the Server tab of the Administration Utility when running the mvBase Server as an Application

Pressing the Stop button in the Server tab in the above circumstance gives the mvBase server only 30 seconds to properly shutdown all processes and to flush the memory. 30 seconds is insufficient time for these functions, particularly for busy servers. Significant data loss can result.

Thus, there is no button in the current Administration Utility which will properly shutdown the mvBase server when executing as an application. To shutdown the mvBase server when running as an application, use one of these easy methods:

  • The preferable method is to execute the :SHUTDOWN command from TCL on port Zero (0).

  • If this is not possible, click the right mouse button on the Server icon in the Windows Task bar (which represents the server running in application mode), then select the Shutdown option.

We are working aggressively to restore normal functionality to the Stop button in the Server tab.
