This version includes new features and enhancements to the Omnis Studio product for up-to-date hardware compatibility, Web Services integration and SQL extensibility. With the introduction of the Web Services component for Omnis Studio 4.2, developers can incorporate tried and tested third-party business functionality provided as Web Services into their own Omnis applications, or provide existing Omnis functionality to many new markets via Web services.

Key New Features Include:

• Mac Intel Support
  Omnis Studio 4.2 will run on Apple computers containing the new Mac Intel processor as well as the older PowerPC chips (Note: Omnis Studio 4.2 requires version 10.4 of Mac OS X to run).
• Direct HTTP Access
  A basic HTTP server incorporated into the Omnis executable, which is sufficient to handle Web Service and ultra-thin client requests sent directly to Omnis (Note: HTTPS is not supported).
• List/Row Subtypes
  A schema, query or table class name can now be used as the subtype of a list or row variable that is a class, instance, local, task or parameter variable, or a column in a list or row defined from an SQL class.
• Web Client
  The Omnis Web Client now allows drag-and-drop between fields in remote forms.

Many more enhancements have been added to the Omnis Studio core product and are documented in the “What's New in Omnis Studio 4.2” manual including some that have been added to support Web Services and Mac Intel compatibility.

Web Services Component

The Web Services component, which will allow Omnis to act as a client or a server for Web Services, is available as a plug-in to Omnis Studio 4.2 and later. The Web Services plug-in is not supported in earlier versions of Omnis Studio. The Web Services plug-in SDK license for Omnis Studio 4.2 may be purchased at the current list price of $1,800.00. ODPP discounts apply.

License Updates

For customers currently under an Omnis Developer Partner Program (ODPP), Omnis Studio 4.2 SDK and deployment license updates are available free of charge.

For customers not currently under an ODPP, Omnis Studio 4.2 SDK and deployment license updates may be purchased at the discounted rate of 20% off the current list price. No further discounts apply.
